Wedding Party Duties & Responsibilities
Groomsmen & Ushers
The main job of ushers is to escort guests to their seats especially the immediate family.
At Christian weddings, the brides guests sit on the left side facing the altar. At a Jewish wedding, it’s just the opposite. After the ceremony escort the bride and grooms family out of the church and help with other guests.
Attend all events in a timely manner.Help plan and pay for the Bachelor Party.Greet and seat guestsUshers typically seat the mothers of the bride & groom.
Hand out programs
Make sure the guest book and/or picture frame is signed.
Un-roll the aisle-runner before the wedding party walks down the aisle.
Help decorate the bride and grooms car.
Dance with bridesmaids and any single women.
Ushers also give directions to the reception especially to out-of-town guests.
All attendants should pay for their own attire, shoes and accessories. For more information:

3. “We’ll nickel and dime you to death.”
Allison Gould reserved her reception site in the Detroit suburbs well before her wedding — 17 months before, to be exact — in the hopes of avoiding surprises. After all, a friend had supplied her own cake and champagne at her wedding and was later charged $1.25 per person for each item as a serving fee. But when Gouin ordered chair covers at $2 each from a rental company, she found out only after the fact that if she wanted them ironed and tied onto the chairs, it would cost her $2 extra per chair. She also discovered that there were extra per-person charges for napkins and tablecloths. It’s common sense to go through your wedding contract with a fine-tooth comb, but it’s even wiser to look for anything not in the contract. Package contracts may not include every dish or piece of flatware, or the waiters to pour the champagne you bought. The items and services not included are rarely free.

. “The groom may kiss the bride — and pay the kickback.”
Need help choosing a florist, caterer, photographer or entertainer? Wedding planners and others will be all too happy to provide a list of recommended vendors. But don’t think they’re doing you a favor. More often than not, insiders admit, the businesses that pay the highest price are the ones who get the referrals.
That’s right: kickbacks. How does it work? Daniel Davison, souz chef of catering in New York, says most locations have a “preferred” list of caterers. In many cities, he adds, if a person wants to bring in a caterer not on the list, the caterer has to buy a license to serve in that facility, at the expense of the client.
In order to get on such a list, a business must pay an annual fee “in the range of $300 to $500,” says Alan Fields, co-author of the bestselling wedding-guide “Bridal Bargains” — or pay a 5-10% commission. “People who don’t want to pay money aren’t on the list,” says Fields. Some caterers go even further, according to Danielson, and volunteer to organize the vendors for the client. “You’re paying a 17-20% service charge on something they would have to do anyway,” he says.

10 Things Mobile Disc Jockeys Won’t Tell You
Part 1 in the series
- “We Charge What We Believe were Worth, not because we want to save you money.”
Some DJ companies will proudly show you their low pricing packages. You canfind these guys everywhere. I call them “guys with equipment”, not real professionals.Everybody wants to be a DJ, with the thought of making easy money. They downloadmusic, buy cheap equipment, and with little to no experience, practice on your wedding with NO formal training. They would charge more if they could.Since they can’t provide premium service, they can’t charge a premium price.
If you charge nothing for your service, that’s what its worth. You get what you pay for.

Make sure you clearly spell out what you consider appropriate and inappropriate.
Each DJ/MC’s level of skill and talent for presenting activities can vary greatly. If you happen to meet with other Disc Jockey’s that do not offer activities to you, please do not hesitate to ask what unique ideas they bring to the table. It’s takes a skilled professional Master of Ceremonies or a Story Teller to perform events properly. Remember it’s not what you do; it’s how you do it.
If other DJ’s tell you they do activities don’t give them any details, instead ask them how they would perform certain activities. There answers may tell you quite a bit about their skill level and knowledge.

Types of Venues
Resorts- Are a great place to have a wedding ceremony and reception. It is convenient for out-of-town guests who can stay at the resort. Ask for groups rates if you are reserving multiple rooms. Most resorts will usually throw in a complimentary nights stay for the Bride & Groom. Most resorts will comp the banquet room depending on the head count for dinner. Resorts can be very pricy and tough to book on certain dates. The key is to plan way ahead and be flexible. “Off -Days” can save you a lot of money as well as “Off-Months”. Resorts have better availability on days other than Saturday and “Off-Peak” months. Most resorts are now requiring the vendors to be insured (certificate of liability insurance). Remember, you must use their food and beverage, but you don’t have to use their A/V. Read your contract before you sign and let them know if you plan to use another A/V company. You can save literally thousands of dollars by out-sourcing any sound, stage, lighting, projectors and/or entertainment.
Country Clubs- Many golf courses have a country club with a banquet room and offer great outdoor scenic spots for the ceremony. Like resorts you usually have to use their food & beverage. Be aware that Country Clubs come in a variety of, Private, Semi-Private or Open to the Public.
If you are a member (Private) you should have use of the banquet room at no charge. If you are a member of a “semi-private” (membership not required) you should have use of the facilities and a reduced rate.
Wedding Venues- Designed exclusively for events (weddings, holiday/birthday/anniversary parties) Most of these venues will allow you to use your own catering company and give you much more flexibility than resorts and country clubs and are considerably less expensive. Some wedding venues will have a preferred list of vendors from which to choose from. Some wedding venues, due to their location, have restrictions on the sound level of the entertainment and usually will have a limitation on the duration of your event.
Halls- Usually someone needs to be a member in order for you to rent or use the banquet room. Most halls will allow you to use outside catering companies and might have time restraints.
Types of Venues
Church Halls- Usually someone needs to be a member in order for you to rent or use the banquet room. Some place restrictions on alcoholic beverages and entertainment. There are usually time constraints.
Restaurants/Bars- Having your reception here can save big bucks. Seldom will you pay for the room. You will be required to use their beverages in exchange for the free room. Some will require to use their food but not many. The entertainment (especially if at a bar/nightclub that has their own sound system and DJ) can save you hundreds of dollars alone. Usually they will charge $50-$100/hour for the DJ. (that’s $200-$500 versus $1200 for a DJ company)There are, however, restrictions on days and times when holding your wedding reception at a bar or restaurant.
Outdoor Events-Parks, Beaches and Backyards. There is nothing more exotic and romantic than getting married by a stream or at the beach but remember… You are at the mercy of Mother Nature.

Saving Money Using Reception Themes
NASCAR
This theme has a world of possibilities. You can decorate with checkered flags and checkered flag streamers, toy cars, painted numbers of the different cars and drivers.
If you would like, you can decorate with a particular driver motif. The best part about this theme is that it is very casual and you can serve regular foods like pizza, large submarine sandwiches, hamburgers and even chips and nachos; pretty much any food that you want.
In general this relaxed type of theme applies to all sports related theme. This theme is great for receptions. You can also opt to watch a race.
MOVIES
Popular movie themes like the Matrix and Lord of the Rings etc. can be a lot of fun for receptions when the bride and groom are movie buffs.
Decorations will be based on what the general movie symbolizes such as; if you chose the Matrix, you would use computer data charts and sheets, computers, dress in all black etc. You could serve appetizers rather than entrees for this type of theme as well. Playing the movie during your reception is a cool idea for background scenery.

Ah Yes! The Wedding Cake! Sure looks good and I’ll bet it tastes great!
Do you remember seeing the wedding cake at the last reception you attended? Probably not. Why?
Wedding cakes are usually placed in a corner, out of sight, and the announcer never let’s the guests know, even when the bride and groom are cutting the cake.
Too many people fall into the “wedding trap”. Gotta have this and gotta have that and it’s gotta be this way and that.
First of all if you decide on a cake, cost it out! Did you know that you can get a beautifully delicious wedding cake at a grocery store for less than half the price at a bakery or wedding cake specialty store?
And this will blow your mind….Listen I’ve gotta go, but if you want the rest of this valuable info, order your 98 page wedding guide, online, and you will own it in minutes!! Just click the button on the right>>>>>
